Abstract

Money is a medium of exchange that can be used and accepted by the wider community as a means of payment for buying and selling goods and services. To count coins, you can directly count as usual by sorting and counting based on the fractions of the coins. If the coins counted are small, it is still possible to do it manually. However, this will be a problem if the money that needs to be counted and sorted is large. This makes it difficult to calculate money because it takes a long time. In this study, the FC-51 infrared sensor was used which was used to detect coins and count the number of coins. To make it easier for coins to enter the prototype, a 5 Volt DC motor is used, the motor functions as a vibrator to move the coins in the initial storage container, inside the prototype there is a path that will take the coins to the coin separator. After the coins are separated according to their nominal value, the coins will be detected by the FC-51 infrared sensor and the microcontroller will calculate the number of coins. After the coin is detected, the coin will be placed according to its nominal value in the final shelter. The results of the sorting will be displayed on a 20x4 LCD. The information displayed is the amount for each nominal, and the total number of coins that are sorted. There is also a reset button that serves to repeat the calculation from zero. The results showed that the accuracy of testing each coin fraction was 95.333% for 100 coins, 92.223% for 200 coins, 90.223% for 500 coins and 93.111% for 1000 coins. By experimenting with coin combinations, the calculation accuracy rate is 92.5%. The results of the average coin calculation time with 100, 200, 500 and 1000 rupiah coins totaling 50 coins for manual calculations are 10 minutes 7 seconds and the average tool calculation time is 6 minutes 46 seconds, the efficiency of using the tool is by 66%.
