Abstract

Efficient and effective field supplies are important in the operations of soldiers in the field, especially for Kopasgat Soldiers (Rapid Troop Corps) who are involved in military operations. An important aspect of the field supplies is the fuel to cook the food and heat the water. The use of wood as a traditional fuel is often inefficient and not environmentally friendly. This study aimed to identify the moisture content, ash content, and combustion rate of Dutch teak wood powder and hazelnut shells used as fuel with tapioca flour adhesive. This study used an experimental approach. The three composition comparisons used were Briquette I with 20% Dutch teak wood powder : 70% hazelnut shell : 10% adhesive, Briquette II with 30% Dutch teak wood powder : 60% hazelnut shell : 10% adhesive and Briquettes III with 40% Dutch teak wood powder : 50% hazelnut shell : 10% adhesive. The results of this study indicated that the composition of Briquettes I has the best moisture content value of 5,13% and the best burning rate value of 0,0692 gr/minute, while the best ash content value was in Briquettes III with 6,57%. The water content value in this study met the briquette quality standard, while the ash content value that met the briquette quality standard was briquette III, but this variation of briquette can be used in field supplies for Kopasgat soldiers.
