Abstract
The VTOL VX-2 aircraft is a modification of the VX-1 for traffic monitoring. The VX-1 had problems: narrow space in the fuselage, a less flexible wing design, and a weaker wing-fuselage joint. The VX-2 was improved to improve efficiency and aerodynamic performance by adding canted winglets. In this study, computation is used using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) based software to predict aerodynamic characteristics and airflow phenomena around wings without winglets and with the use of winglets. The model used is the VTOL VX-2 wing with NACA 4412 profile which was created using SolidWorks 2018 software, and simulations were carried out using ANSYS CFX 2023 software. The results showed that the coefficient of lift and drag coefficient on the UAV VX-2 wing with the addition of canted winglets was 20.48% of the UAV VX-2 wing without the addition of winglets. Increasing the angle of attack contributes to increasing the value of the coefficient of lift and the coefficient of drag. After reaching an angle of attack of 4°, the graph of the coefficient of lift/drag value on the VX-2 UAV wing variation with the addition of the canted winglet shows a significant increase in the coefficient of lift/drag value compared to the VX-2 UAV wing without the addition of winglets.
