Abstract
The development of wind turbine technology requires careful research and testing to optimize efficiency and performance. One of the important stages in the development of wind turbines is testing on a laboratory scale before being implemented on a full scale. Wind turbine performance research can be carried out in a wind tunnel by taking into account several observable parameters, namely, the number of revolutions in 1 minute (RPM) and torque (T). This research makes the design of a microcontroller-based wind turbine test tool. Research testing was carried out by applying the experimental method using a wind tunnel which has a test section measuring 30 cm x 30 cm, with the test object used, namely a vertical type wind turbine with the Darrieus type. The design of the test tool uses 2 sensors, namely the optocoupler sensor as input to produce RPM values and load cell sensors as input to produce torque values. The results of the test using the test equipment that has been made, namely the RPM and torque are 0 at wind speeds of 6 m/s to 9 m/s, while at wind speeds of 10 m/s to 15 m/s the RPM value increases at each speed the wind. The torque has the greatest value of 1,127 Nmm at a wind speed of 13 m/s, and the smallest value is 0,950 Nmm at a wind speed of 12 m/s.
