Abstract
The development of science and technology has driven the increasing demand for materials of the highest quality, namely materials that are lightweight, corrosion resistant, low density, strong, wear and fatigue resistant and economical, in an effort to meet the increasing demand for material quality, composite materials are used. Natural fibers are often used as reinforcement in composite materials because they have good mechanical properties. In addition, natural fibers can also be produced with relatively low production costs and are easy to recycle, so they can be an alternative to synthetic fibers that are more environmentally friendly. This study aims to determine the tensile strength of hemp and pineapple fiber hybrid composites. Manufacture of hemp and pineapple fiber hybrid composite materials using the hand lay-up method. Tensile testing of hemp and pineapple fiber hybrid composites using the Universal Testing Machine (UTM), specimen dimensions refer to the ASTM (American Society for Testing Material) standard D3039. The results showed that the average values of ultimate tensile strength, ultimate tensile strain and modulus of elasticity of hemp and pineapple hybrid composites with a volume fraction of 70% fiber had the highest values of 115.949 MPa, 0.039 and 4.891 GPa compared to the hybrid composite of hemp and pineapple fiber volume fraction of 50% and the hybrid composite of hemp and pineapple fiber volume fraction of 60%.
