Abstract
Vacuum resin infusion is a method of making composites by utilizing vacuum pressure where the spread of the resin will be regulated by pressure so that the resin is spread evenly on the specimens that are made. The purpose of this study was to determine the design of the vacuum resin infusion device where the process of making composites using the vacuum resin infusion method has advantages over the hand lay up method, as seen in the specimens produced where the rate of bubble formation is lower, and the standard deviation value is 10.983% smaller compared to the standard deviation value of the hand lay up method, which is 20.927% Then in the manufacture of composites using chooped carbon fiber with a comparison between the hand lay up method and the vacuum resin infusion method and knowing the level of bending strength in chopped carbon fiber composites. The results of bending tests on chopped carbon fiber composites using the hand lay up method are known to have the highest average stress value of 84.333 Mpa, then bending tests on chopped carbon fiber composites using the vacuum resin infusion method are known to have the highest average stress values of 100.497 MPa. This possibility occurs because during the process of making composites using the hand lay up method, in the process there is direct contact with hands and air so that the level of voids is quite high.
